Yara Gambirasio was a 13-year-old girl from Brembate di Sopra, Italy, who went missing on November 26, 2010. Her body was found three months later on February 26, 2011, in a field near the town of Chignolo d'Isola.
The case garnered widespread media attention in Italy and sparked one of the largest investigations in the country's history. Investigators collected and analyzed massive amounts of DNA evidence, eventually leading to the arrest of a suspect, Massimo Bossetti, in June 2014.
Bossetti was convicted of Yara Gambirasio's murder in 2016 and sentenced to life in prison. The case has been described as a "watershed moment" for Italian forensic science and the use of DNA evidence in criminal investigations.
